Officers working out of the North Hollywood Community Police Station patrol the area in and around the NoHo Arts District. When someone is arrested, they’re taken to the station where the arrestee will undergo booking and processing. Depending on how busy the station is, the process can take anywhere from 45-minutes to several hours to complete. Only after booking and processing has been completed will bail be set and an inmate be eligible for a bail bond.
The on-site jail at the North Hollywood Community Police Station is small, and only intended for the short-term housing of inmates. If someone is taken to the jail and remains there for longer than 72-hours, or if the jail becomes overcrowded, then it’s likely that he or she will be transferred to one of the larger jails in downtown Los Angeles. Men are sent to Twin Towers Jail while women are sent to the Lynwood Jail.
The transfer process can take anywhere from 12 to 24-hours to complete, as the inmate will need to go through another round of processing at their new, much larger and busier location. During this period, it will be impossible to bail them out until they have been fully-processed in at the new facility. Transfer can often be avoided altogether when the bail bond process is begun while the inmate is still located at the North Hollywood station jail.
Why Bail Someone Out?
Jail is not a fun place, and nobody likes to be there. The simplest and most obvious answer to the question of ‘why bail someone out‘ is simply to get them out of police custody. However, there’s actually a lot more to it than that. When you bail someone out of jail, you give them the opportunity to continue living their lives. They can attend work and/or school, see to family obligations, and importantly: obtain legal counsel. When someone is in jail for an extended period of time, jobs can be lost, classes can be failed, and bills go unpaid (which can lead to evictions). When you bail someone out of jail, you help mitigate the potential damage that an unexpected arrest can cause.
How to Bail Someone Out
The bail bond process begins by giving us a call and providing the name, birth date, and the date and time of arrest of the person you want to bail out. We will use the information to locate them within the jail system and verify their eligibility for bail. After we do that, we have you fill out our bail bond application forms and sign the indemnitor’s agreement. All of our forms a short and straightforward, but if you have questions, we’re always happy to go over them with you step-by-step.
Finally, we provide you with a receipt and send someone to the jail to post the bond. Your friend or loved one will then be released as soon as they can be processed out.
If you’re unable to meet with us in person, we can always handle the bail bond application process via phone, fax or email. Your comfort and convenience is important to us, and we always do our best to accommodate our clients.
The Cost of a Bail Bond
In California, the cost of a bail bond is set at 10% of the total bail amount. So, if the total amount of bail is $15,000, then the cost of a bail bond will be $1,500.
Most of our clients choose to pay via major debit/credit card, of which we accept Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover. We also accept cash, business and personal checks, money orders, bank account transfers and money wire.
If you’re interested in financing the cost of a bail bond – let us know! We have a variety of flexible payment plans designed to fit most any budget. We never include any additional fees, charges or interest, no matter how you choose to pay.
