There is a DUI checkpoint coming to Santa Clarita on November 16th from 6pm to 2am.
DUI/Drivers License checkpoints are often used by law enforcement in order to dissuade people from driving while under the influence, as well as to catch those who do.
They are typically placed in areas that have the greatest odds of intercepting drunk or otherwise inhibited drivers.
As easy as it may seem to simply call a taxi or make prior arrangements to secure a safe ride home from a bar or a party, drunk driving occurs more often than one might think. In 2010, 791 people were killed in alcohol related traffic accidents in the state of California.
Most of these incidents involved drunk drivers in the age range of 21-24, showing us that those who have recently reached the legal drinking age are most at risk to make the unfortunate decision of driving while intoxicated.
Since 2009, Santa Clarita Sheriff Deputies have had to investigate 212 separate alcohol-related traffic accidents that involved injury or death. Over the same period of time in Los Angeles County, 730 people died in alcohol-related collisions.
If you’ve lived in the Santa Clarita Valley for awhile, you may have noticed these checkpoints before. They’re often conducted before the Holidays where drinking is involved, such as Memorial Day weekend, the 4th of July and with Halloween fast approaching, there are sure to be more DUI checkpoints here in the SCV.
The point of these traffic stops is to show the community that drunk driving will not be tolerated by the Sheriff’s Department and that those who are caught doing so will be arrested and taken into custody.
Police Departments, as well as the Sheriff’s Department, do not take the crime of driving under the influence lightly, and those that they apprehend will face the full force of the law. Those convicted of drunk driving often face jail time, loss of driving privileges, hefty fines and even prison time should an innocent person be injured or killed.
So we say, please stay safe out there while on the road, and of course, if you ever happen to be pulled over and arrested for DUI, you can always call your friends and local bail agents from SCV Bail Bonds locally at 661-299-BAIL (2245). We’re right across the street from the Santa Clarita Station Jail!
