The Santa Clarita Sheriff Station deputies are planning a DUI checkpoint this coming Friday, October 11th at an undisclosed location in the Santa Clarita Valley.
As per prior DUI checkpoints in Santa Clarita, this one will last from 6:00 pm Friday evening until 2:00 am Saturday morning.
When drivers pass through the checkpoint, they will be checked for signs of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and will be subjected to drivers license checks.
Time and again, DUI checkpoints have been a proven deterrent in the fight against those who would choose to drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
On the other side of the coin, some think that DUI checkpoints are less successful than one might think due to the relatively low number of arrests, and the fact that they are announced beforehand. However, SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies want people to know about the checkpoints.
According to Sheriff’s Station Captain Paul Becker, “We know that as soon as we start putting out orange cones, people who see them will start getting on their phones and letting other people know. That’s okay. We want that conversation and we hope that it stops people who might be thinking about drinking and driving.”
With DUI charges carrying pretty hefty penalties by themselves, let alone when someone is unfortunately injured or killed in a collision, it should be enough to deter would-be drivers from driving while intoxicated.
DUI checkpoints serve the community by placing an active role by local law enforcement, in doing everything they can to protect the public at large.
