Maize on ThanksgivingThanksgiving time is upon us. A time when families come together to laugh, eat, drink, and give thanks for what they have been blessed with over the course of the year.

The first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 when Plymouth colonists sat down with the Wampanoag Indians and shared a harvest feast. For over two-hundred years, Thanksgiving was celebrated by American Colonies and States alike, in the tradition of gratitude and giving thanks for all that has been bestowed upon them.

While Thanksgiving had been celebrated for some time, it wasn’t until 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln officially proclaimed Thanksgiving a National Holiday and that it should be held yearly each November.

Thanksgiving is celebrated today much as it has been for so many years. The traditional Thanksgiving turkey is baked (or in many recent cases, deep-fried) and paired with a host of sides such as candied yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, biscuits and pumpkin pie.

As far as beverages go, an old favorite this time of year is brandy egg-nog. Make sure you’re not one of the people who happen to imbibe a little too much in this traditional holiday beverage, then attempt to drive home.

Even though it’s a National Holiday (or perhaps because it’s a National Holiday), the police are extra vigilant when patrolling the roads and are more than willing to stop, cite or even arrest those suspected of driving under the influence.

In an effort to promote a safe, enjoyable holiday for everyone, DUI checkpoints are not an uncommon site the evening before and of Thanksgiving. If you’d like more information about how to safely enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday, you can check out some LAPD holiday safety tips or even give them a call for more information on how to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving Holiday.

From us at SCV Bail Bonds, we extend our wishes of a safe and happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.
