Police are conducting Hollywood DUI checkpoints this weekend in an effort to stay on top of holiday celebrations and keep would-be drunk drivers off the roads. The checkpoints will be held at the following locations:
Saturday, December 3rd:
- DUI/Drivers license checkpoint at Sepulveda Boulevard and Parthenia Street, North Hills, Los Angeles from 8 pm to 1 am
- DUI/Drivers license checkpoint at Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle Avenue in Los Angeles, from 8 pm to 1 am
Sunday, December 4th:
- DUI Saturation Patrol in the Foothill area from 5 pm to 1 am
At the checkpoints, police will be looking for signs of drug or alcohol use, as well as checking to ensure motorists possess valid California drivers licenses.
The saturation patrol will be an increased police presence on the streets. They’ll be looking for signs of impaired driving and pulling over motorists who appear to be intoxicated.
Over the past 3 years, there have been 7,048 DUI-related traffic collisions that have resulted in the death of 60 people and the injury of 2,818 more. Police have noted a spike in DUI-related collisions during the holiday season, and urge revelers to think ahead before they go out. If you plan on consuming alcohol, make sure you have a safe ride home. Appointing a designated driver, taking a taxi, or using one of the ride sharing apps like Uber or Lyft to get you around.
Being arrested for a DUI can cost upwards of $10,000 in fees and penalties, as well as result in the loss of your driving privileges, jail time, and higher insurance rates.
