In an effort to combat drunk-driving accidents, and reduce DUIs via the tried-and-true method of deterrence, the Los Angeles Police Department has announced DUI checkpoints that will take place over the weekend.
On Friday, November 1st, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am Saturday morning, LAPD officers will be conducting a checkpoint in Hollywood on Sunset Blvd. and Ogden Dr.
On Saturday, November 2nd, from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am Sunday morning, officers will be at Roscoe Blvd. and Gloria Ave. in North Hills.
One important thing to note is that the LAPD does not need to announce that they will be conducting checkpoints, so be prepared to encounter them in other areas of the city as well. The LAPD and LASD choose to announce certain checkpoints in an effort to let those who would choose to drive under the influence know that law enforcement is being particularly vigilant.
Apart from the DUI checkpoints, the LAPD will be conducting saturation patrols in which an increased number of officers are patrolling the streets. The increased visibility of officers provides not only a deterrent to would-be criminals, but also lets the community know that they are around and in control.
