Thanksgiving is a little over 2-weeks away, leaving most of us planning our holiday celebrations. Law enforcement are making plans too – but not for roast turkey. This weekend, the LASD and local police departments will be holding DUI checkpoints throughout Los Angeles County in an attempt to deter would-be drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel after they’ve consumed alcohol.
On Friday November 13, the Long Beach Police will be conducting saturation patrols in areas of Long Beach that have statistically shown higher incidences of alcohol-related collisions and arrests. Additionally, the LASD will be holding a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in Long Beach. The saturation patrol will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and continue through until 3 a.m. Saturday, while the DUI checkpoint will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue through 2 a.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, November 14, the LASD will be conducting a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in West Hollywood. Deputies will be looking for any signs of possible impairment, as well as checking to ensure motorists possess valid driver’s licenses. The checkpoint will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday and continue through 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Checkpoints like these serve as a powerful deterrent that has been proven to reduce the incidence of alcohol-related collisions and fatalities. Deputies expect that the checkpoints will create a minimal delay for drivers traversing through the location that the checkpoint is held.
