A person was arrested Friday suspected of breaking in to local Santa Clarita Valley schools.
Gonzalo Ortiz, a 20 year old Newhall resident and suspected gang member was arrested along with a 17 year old boy, Friday morning and is currently being held on $85,000 bail. However, he is being held on an immigration hold.
The charges include one count of resisting arrest and one count of second degree commercial burglary. So far, he has entered a not guilty plea and the next court date isn’t until May 3rd.
Deputies believe that it is Ortiz who was captured on video camera breaking into William S. Hart High School over spring break. In total, there were 4 schools burglarized including: Newhall Elementary, Old Orchard Elementary, Hart High School and Sierra Vista Junior High.
On April 10th, Sheriff’s Deputies asked the public for assistance in identifying two people caught on video camera breaking into Hart High School. Thanks to the help of the community, as well as the high resolution cameras that caught the burglars in the act, it was only a matter of time until an arrest was made.
Burglary is a serious crime and one that the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department deals with frequently. Depending on the case, the suspect could face a large fine, jail time, or both.
