CASTAIC, CA — Recently, a Castaic man was allegedly assaulted when an intruder attempted to force his way into the victim’s home. On a Sunday at 10:30 pm, Jeff Preach got up to answer a knock at his door. When Mr. Preach opened his door, the knocker, Salvador Medrano, asked for $100 million dollars. Initially, Preach laughed it off, thinking it was some kind of joke, but unfortunately that set Medrano off and he began to punch Preach in the face repeatedly.
After throwing the punches, Medrano pushed his way into the home and continued to pummel Preach, who fought back as best as he could. According to him, none of Medrano’s punches “hurt him too badly” and as the scuffle ensued, Preach was able to pin Medrano between a wall and a couch. Preach then told his wife to call the police and to also retrieve the shotgun that they kept in the home. Medrano was held at gunpoint until police arrived with the assistance of Preach’s wife and his cousin.
Even after police arrived, Medrano reportedly acted combative and resisted officer’s initial attempts to arrest him. Thanks to that, he is being charged both with robbery and resisting arrest. Currently, Medrano is in custody at the Santa Clarita Sheriff Station in lieu of $100,000 bail.
There’s no word yet on the mental state of Medrano at the time the incident occurred, though his initial demand for $100 million dollars indicates that he may not have been of sound mental health at the time.
